Filmmaker, artist and storyteller Mackie Mallison strives for the social justice of marginalized groups in all societies through creating pieces that address topics that often are left swept under the rug. Sharing stories sparks conversation, and conversation creates change. By shedding light on topics that need to be talked about with all people, Mackie believes that we as artists can create this change.
Fighting Discrimination with Filmmaking
The stories and experiences of artists of color often go unheard of. I wanted to share the voice of a Japanese filmmaker who has experienced discrimination to the point of him creating art to change the world around him. My own personal experiences with discrimination being Japanese-American prompted me to address the issue through film.
